NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle's second annual Stage & Screen auction on June 24, 2022 attracted bidders from around the world.. Following the success of the inaugural Stage & Screen auction in Spring 2021, the sale chronicled the diverse history of the performing arts celebrating Film, Theater, Music and Dance.

The sale was highlighted by several autographs of George Gershwin and items from the archive of Over the Rainbow composer Harold Arlen. Of note among the Gershwin items was a musical manuscript leaf from Porgy and Bess and a photograph inscribed from Gershwin to I've got Rhythm singer Ethel Merman that realized $22,680 -- A World Auction Record for a Signed Gershwin Photograph.

Other highlights included original costume designs for Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Judy Garland by the inimitable Edith Head, a group of works by Al Hirschfeld featuring a dramatic original drawing depicting Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in Private Lives.

A remarkable offering was an archive of almost 200 original artwork from the 1960s by the folk singer Richie Havens, the opening performer at Woodstock.

Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht's masterwork, The Threepenny Opera debuted at the Theatre De Lys on Christopher Street (now the Lucille Lortel Theatre) in 1954. Marc Blitzstein's adaptation was critically acclaimed as an off-Broadway show and the production ran for over 2500 performances. In a work by Arbit Blatas one can see the following characters from left to right: Jenny, The Madame, Mack the Knife, Streetsinger, Mr. Peachum, Filch, and Mrs. Peachum. The lower panels depict members of the orchestra.

Doyle was honored to offer a second selection of property from the Collection of theater legend and Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning actress Celeste Holm (1917-2012) in a special section of the auction. View interview with Ms. Holm's husband Frank Basile
